BRAVES WEAKNESS IN 2011
I think the defense will again hurt us. I dont think we will be the 2 or 3rd worst defensive team like we were last year but I dont think we will be a great defensive team. I hope that Iam wrong though- defense comes up huge in the playoffs.. Its not suprising that the teams that make the playoffs normally are all good defensive teams.I also worry about center field position. Is Nate Mcclouth going to produce this year? Is he right for the number 2 spot in the batting order?? These are my 2 concerns for this team this year. What do you think will be the weakness of this team this year?

I would agree that defense is crucial to success at any level. I think with their offense being a touch better we will be able to mask our defense on certain days.
ReplyDeleteMcClouth will be much better this year than last. However, I think I could have a better year than he did last year. I don't like the 2 hole for him, but I think its the best fit with the current lineup. I would love for Prado to be able to hit second, but without a true leadoff guy, he has to hit first.
I like Uggla and I think he makes us much better. But I would have liked to trade for Chone Figgins and Colby Rasmus. JJ and McClouth for Rasmus and a few prospects for Figgins. I know that would have made our pitching depth a little worse, but it would have given us a true leadoff guy who was very good defensively either at 3rd or 2nd. Prado could hit two and we would have a solid CF.
Good offense will overshadow bad defense on some days but when you come down to playoffs bad defesne will always haunt you..
ReplyDeleteI hope Mcclouth will be better then last year- the guys been a huge dissappointment.Yeh I agree me or you could have been more productive then Nate last year.I think it will take a couple months for Freddi Gonzo to truly know what his lineup for this team will be- I dont think the current one will last.
I dont think any team would have traded for Mcclouth. Its easier to suggest trades then to do them. I know St.Louis would have wanted an arm and leg for Colby. I hope nate works out -it would solve multiple problems for us but Im just not confident in him to produce
I may not be confident either, but I do think he will rebound. If he hits over .250, has around 20 HRs and plays a decent CF, then I think we're good. Nate is a major league ballplayer. He may not be the All-star he was in Pittsburgh, but I think he can be a very good player for us.
ReplyDeleteRasmus may have been tough to get but I think there were trades out there that would have given us a more well rounded offense and defense. Again, I think Uggla is a huge upgrade in the middle of our lineup, but I agree defense is a question mark.
Yeh if he can hit .250-.270 with 20 or so homers I agree ill be happy- I wish the braves would take advantage of his speed tho...
ReplyDeleteThere was other trades out there but maybe they wanted too much from the braves- the braves got some major talent in minors in pitching department that they dont have an intrest in trading.. I like Uggla and like you his defense concerns me but I know that the marlins playing surface is one of the worst in baseball that may have contributed to Ugglas bad defense in FLA. Braves cant afford to have bad defense if they wanna advance in playoffs
